Shavin is a Solicitor in the Dispute Resolution team. He advises individuals, families and businesses across a broad range of contentious matters, including civil litigation, contentious probate, family proceedings and immigration matters.

Shavin advises on civil and commercial disputes, including contractual claims, payment disputes and business disagreements. He focuses on giving clear, practical advice at an early stage, protecting the client’s position and resolving disputes as efficiently and proportionately as possible.

His dispute resolution experience also includes defamation and reputational disputes, where he has advised on High Court proceedings involving alleged defamatory publications, reputational harm, ADR, settlement strategy and Part 36 offers.

In family proceedings, Shavin advises on divorce, financial remedy, private children disputes, domestic abuse, occupation orders and non-molestation orders. He has experience of urgent protective applications and contested proceedings where clear, practical advice is required at short notice.

Shavin also advises on contentious probate and inheritance disputes, including claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, disputes between executors and beneficiaries, and claims arising from difficult family circumstances.

Recent Work

  • Defamation and reputational disputes – Acted for defendants in High Court defamation proceedings in the Media and Communications List, involving issues of meaning, fact and opinion, ADR, settlement negotiations and Part 36 strategy.
  • Civil litigation – Assisted in a multi-track County Court claim arising from a contractual dispute between a dental associate and a dental practice, involving disputed remuneration.
  • Commercial and contractual disputes – Advises clients on pre-action strategy, settlement negotiations, pleadings, interim procedural issues, litigation risk and the practical management of claims.
  • Contentious probate – Successfully negotiated a settlement for a widow excluded from her late husband’s Will by bringing a claim under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975. Obtained the Court’s permission to proceed despite the statutory six-month deadline, following persuasive and successful representations.
  • Children Act proceedings – Represented a father in securing supervised and subsequently unsupervised contact within months of initiating Court proceedings, successfully refuting unsubstantiated allegations made against him.
  • Contentious probate – Represented an executor and beneficiary in successfully defending a claim brought by the deceased’s estranged wife.
  • Emergency applications and interim injunctions – Successfully obtained an emergency occupation order and non-molestation order under the Family Law Act 1996, protecting a client from harm and preventing a physically abusive partner from re-entering the matrimonial home.
