Dying Matters Awareness Week: Encouraging Open Conversations

This week marks Dying Matters Awareness Week (5th–11th May), a vital initiative led by Hospice UK that encourages open discussions around death, dying, and bereavement. The campaign seeks to break down stigma and foster conversations that improve end-of-life care and understanding across communities.

This year’s theme, The Culture of Dying Matters, highlights the diverse ways in which different communities and cultures approach death while acknowledging the shared emotions that connect us all in these experiences.

At Garner & Hancock, our commitment to these conversations extends beyond this week. For the past three years, we have run a free monthly advice clinic at The Mulberry Centre, offering up to half an hour of free legal guidance to those seeking support. Held on the first Thursday of every month from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the clinic provides a safe and welcoming space for individuals to ask questions, seek clarity, and receive expert guidance during challenging times.

This initiative has been an integral part of our dedication to supporting the community, ensuring that legal advice remains accessible to those who need it most. Over the years, we have seen firsthand the positive impact of these sessions. Not only on attendees but on our team, who continue to be inspired by the resilience and courage of those we meet.

As Dying Matters Awareness Week unfolds, we encourage everyone to take part in the conversation. Whether by attending an event, sharing your experiences, or simply taking time to reflect, every action contributes to shifting how we approach discussions about death and dying.
