Update on Probate Fees

PROBATE FEES INCREASE SCRAPPED FOR NOW

WATCH OUT

In April 2017, we reported on government’s  plans to increase of the probate fees. Much has changed since then. The Prime Minister has called a general election, which will take place in June this year. Reports suggest that the proposal to increase the probate fees has been put on ice for now. We will update you if and when a new government minister starts defrosting the idea of taxing estates thousands of pounds on Grant of Probate applications.

Time is ticking fast for those wishing to apply for Grants of Probate.  The government’s plan to raise probate fees is likely to costs thousands of pounds for estates which are relatively modest in size.

Garner  & Hancock were at full strength at the inaugural festival of business at Syon Park. Meeting business leaders and getting to know local people who serve the borough of Hounslow. Stephen Fry the CEO of the Hounslow Chamber of Commerce said “west London is the second most prosperous area in the UK and we need to keep that way”.

We welcome James Hadley, a senior private client solicitor who now heads up the department joins 4 other partners at Garner & Hancock.

James has a wealth of experience in advising in wills, tax planning and probate. He was previously a partner at a firm in the North of England and has now moved to North London.

Traditional Christmas Carols at Garner & Hancock’s annual party

 

christmas party garner and hancock The partners and staff of Garner & Hancock celebrated with their clients at a traditional evening of carols, mince pies and mulled wine.

The Salvation Army band led the carols introduced by the Rev Ginny Luckett of the All Saints Church in Old Isleworth.

Attended by Ruth Cadbury MP and local councillor Ed Maine, the evening was an eventful end to the year.

Every year Garner & Hancock chooses a charity to donate at Christmas. This year a donation of £100 was made to the React Charity

“Rapid Effective Assistance for Children with Potentially Terminal illness is a charity working to improve the quality of life for children with life-limiting illnesses living in financially disadvantaged households throughout the UK”

TWO MINUTE SILENCE

All the staff at Garner & Hancock  observed a two minute silence today. Armistice Day, on 11 November 1918 marked the end of the First World War and is a day to remember and honour those who have paid the price for our freedom.

386 Isleworth men were killed in the 1st World War.

Garner & Hancock Reception at Carvossos

On Wednesday 14th October 2015 Garner & Hancock hosted a reception at Carvossos in Chiswick to mark the occasion of the retirement of Mr Julian Hutson. Mr Hutson was educated at Harrow School and Trinity College Dublin and has practiced as property lawyer for over 40 years.

Mr Hutson has stepped down from being the senior partner but continues as a consultant partner.

Mr Vinay Tanna the Managing Partner hosted the event. “this was a time to celebrate the life of a true gentleman who has brought this firm so far during his 22 years with the practice.”julian's retirement party 1

Attending  the event were former partners of the practice and clients old and new, including those sitting in the House of Lords, Judges and from industry and property fields.  This was also an opportunity to formally welcome two new partners to the the practice, Mrs Kiran Walia and Ms Julie Strudwick. They are both experienced property lawyers and will carry on a strong property department at Garner & Hancock.
